Wolves have already bolstered their attacking options considerably this summer, having signed Jorgen Strand Larsen and Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo, while Jhon Arias became the latest addition to the squad earlier this week.

Steve Bull believes Arias could be a fantastic heir to Pedro Neto, saying: “Some quality has left the squad and we needed to bring in some replacements and from what I’ve seen of Arias, he’s quick and dangerous.

“We’ve missed that pace in the side since Pedro Neto left, and fingers crossed he can bring something different to the team.”

However, despite already making major improvements to his attack, Vitor Pereiera remains keen on getting another forward through the door, and the Old Gold have now joined the race for a new target.

That is according to a report from ESPN, which reveals Bayer Leverkusen’s Amine Adli is now on Wolves’ radar, with the Premier League side keen on a move, and the player himself is believed to be open to heading to England.

West Ham United are also in the race for Adli, and a deal is unlikely to break the bank, with Leverkusen looking to receive just £23m, despite the Morocco international playing a major role in their 2023-24 Bundesliga title triumph.

The Moroccan was one of Leverkusen’s most important players in the 2023-24 season, and he was also singled out for praise by Xabi Alonso upon returning from injury last season, with the Spaniard saying: “Having Amine back on the pitch is very important for everyone. His attitude and quality are extremely important for the team.”

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has provided an overview of the Leverkusen ace’s key strengths in the past, describing him as a “versatile & mobile player capable of playing anywhere along the front line”, while also claiming the attacker has “electric pace”.

The France-born forward missed 23 games for club and country due to injury last season, and subsequently his attacking output dropped, picking up just two goals and one assist in the Bundesliga.

However, if Adli is able to put his injury problems in the rear view mirror, he could be an exciting signing for Wolves, and it is promising news that he is now open to a move to the Premier League.

Celtic will have to fight hard to keep hold of their best players during the summer transfer window, as teams are already circling around some of their top talents.

According to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, Italian side Como have made an approach to sign Nicolas Kuhn from the Scottish Premiership champions.

The journalist claims that the German winger is “in demand” and that German outfit RB Leipzig are also among the teams interested in a swoop to sign the 25-year-old star before the end of the summer transfer window.

Joseph adds, though, that the Hoops are in a strong position with the forward because he still has four years left to run on his contract at Parkhead.

Whilst losing Kuhn, who produced 13 goals and nine assists in the Premiership this season, would be a blow for the Scottish giants, Celtic must also be wary of losing their exciting young prospects.

The Hoops have been burned in the past by failing to keep hold of promising young players, and Ben Doak is one notable example of a starlet the club surely wished they had managed to keep.

In the summer of 2022, the Scottish winger turned down a contract with the Bhoys and sealed a transfer to Premier League giants Liverpool on a ‘free transfer’.

The Reds had to pay a compensation fee of £600k for the young attacker, who had made two first-team appearances for the Hoops, and that deal has turned out to be a bargain for the English side.

Doak has only made ten appearances for Liverpool in three years, but played 24 games on loan at Middlesbrough this season and has been capped six times by Scotland.

At the time of writing, Transfermarkt values the 19-year-old winger at a whopping £12m, which is significantly more than the £600k that the Premier League team paid for him in 2022. This means that the Reds got a bargain deal and Celtic were left hard done by, as they did not get good value for his services.

As you can see in the table above, the teenage talent caught the eye with his performances on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship this season, showing off his creativity on the right flank on a regular basis.

Overall, the Hoops will surely rue not being able to convince Doak to stay at Parkhead because he has thrived since leaving Scotland for a minimal fee, and they must now avoid a repeat of that with Johnny Kenny.

The reporter claims that Celtic have turned down a bid worth up to £500k from the third tier outfit for the young marksman, as they value him at more than that.

Joseph adds that Bolton are expected to come back in with a second offer to land the former Shamrock Rovers number nine before the end of the summer transfer window.

However, the journalist reveals that the Premiership champions are not actively looking to cash in on the 22-year-old striker, although they could sanction a loan move later in the window if the right move comes up.

The Hoops must, now, maintain this stance because they could find themselves on the wrong end of another Doak repeat if they allow Kenny to leave the club for anywhere near the £500k bid that Bolton have made for him.

The Scottish giants must keep hold of the Irish marksman and either keep him as part of the first-team squad or send him out on loan to a good level for the 2025/26 campaign, because he is a promising young talent.

Although he is a bit older than Doak was when he moved on from Glasgow, at the age of 22, he is still very young for a centre-forward and has shown plenty of promise already.

Kenny spent 2024 on loan at Shamrock Rovers in Ireland and caught the eye in his home country, scoring 13 goals in 29 Premier Division matches for the club.

The young attacker, who was dubbed “brilliant” by Brendan Rodgers, also impressed on the European stage with his contributions in front of goal in the Conference League in the first half of the 2024/25 campaign.

As you can see in the table above, the Celtic loanee ranked highly among strikers in the competition when it came to scoring goals and testing goalkeepers with high-quality shots, firing in 5.56 xG worth of shots on target.

His form for Shamrock Rovers led to Rodgers making him a part of the Celtic squad for the second half of the season, and Kenny showed that he has something to offer to the team in his limited Premiership minutes.

Kenny only played 159 minutes across eight games in the division for the Hoops, but still managed to score one goal and provide one assist, with his goal coming in the form of a header against Aberdeen, as shown in the clip above.

His statistics for Shamrock Rovers and in limited game time for Celtic show that he has the potential to develop into an effective centre-forward option for Rodgers, because he has scored goals when called upon, which is why cashing in on him for a minimal fee this summer would be a big mistake.

Now, the Blues are back in the ultra-competitive Championship, desperate to prove that they belong at the level, with an ambition in their veins to push on even more after lifting the League One title with ease.

Mega-rich Birmingham chairman Tom Wagner has even been hyping up the prospect of Chris Davies’ men being back in the Premier League by 2026 coming around, meaning the Blues will have to instantly take the EFL’s elite league by storm on their reentry.

It will be intriguing to see if all this pressure on Birmingham’s back hurts their progress, but the step up a league will also be an opportunity for the likes of Paik Seung-Ho to show they can strut their stuff in a more difficult environment, away from breaking the bank to fund their top-flight dreams.

Yet, now as they venture back up to the Championship, the ambitious Blues could soon land an upgrade on the stylish South Korean by signing this former Manchester United youth product.

Birmingham's search for a midfielder

Birmingham have had lots of success in the past when purchasing former Red Devils prodigies, with the likes of Tahith Chong and Jesse Lingard shining at St. Andrew’s briefly, before spreading their wings elsewhere.

Indeed, Chong registered 13 goals and assists in 61 games for the Midlands side, with Lingard previously racking up nine goal involvements in just 13 outings on loan at the club.

Charlie Savage’s name could soon be thrown into this mix, with a previous report from Football Insider revealing that Birmingham are prepared to battle it out for the £2m-rated star’s services, amidst interest also coming from Wrexham, Blackburn Rovers, and Portsmouth.

Much like Paik, Savage is fresh off a standout season in League One, albeit in a Reading side with many off-field struggles that nearly derailed matters on the pitch.

When looking at the table below, too, it could be argued that the Royals’ number eight is even an upgrade on his South Korean counterpart, with Savage tallying up more goals and assists last season for Noel Hunt’s men when weighed up next to Paik’s lesser output.

Amazingly, despite averaging fewer touches per match last season in League One, Savage would better Paik’s goal-and-assist tally by a whopping ten, with the 22-year-old’s effectiveness in forward areas perhaps a useful weapon for the Blues to call upon as they strive to ruffle feathers back in the Championship.

He does fall flat when weighing up their respective ball recovery and duels won numbers, but that’s where Tomoki Iwata could come to the rescue in any potential duo, with Iwata just about trumping Paik with 4.5 ball recoveries averaged per third-tier clash.

Hailed as “first class” by former Wales manager Rob Page when first thrown into the Red Dragons senior side, Savage should, in theory, be able to immediately slot into Davies’ team and take to the pressures of the Championship well, resulting in Paik having to make do with a spot in the background.

The last bowler to achieve this was another West Indian, Shermon Lewis, against India in Rajkot in 2018-19. He dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli – but India still ran up 649, and Lewis won only one more cap.Pride of place has to go to the old England captain Norman Yardley, whose first two Test wickets were both none other than Don Bradman, who was averaging over 100 at the time. This was during the second and third matches of the 1946-47 Ashes series in Australia, which were Yardley’s fourth and fifth Tests (he didn’t take a wicket in the first three). Again, it didn’t lead to much joy: Bradman had made 234 and 79, and Australia went on to win the series 3-0.Three others dismissed a high-averaging opponent twice to start their careers. The way the women’s game has developed in the country is a lesson for the rest of the world

In recent times that group includes the Australian men’s team from around 1999 to the mid-2000s and the West Indies side of the eighties through to the mid-nineties. They set England an enormous chase by scoring 356 batting first. Healy is a famous Australian cricket name but she is only one of a number of star players. The team’s ongoing success has been built around Lanning’s strong leadership, bolstered by the individual brilliance of many.Healy’s slickness with the gloves is not surprising because she has inherited the keeping skills of her uncle Ian. However, when she bats, it’s a different story. Where Ian was highly competitive but slightly unorthodox with the bat, Alyssa is a fleet-footed stroke-maker. She uses her feet to get into position and then guides the shot in her preferred direction with subtle use of the wrists. When I chatted with Healy and her father, Greg, over a beer, I realised she also has inherited the cheeky Healy character.She scored a record-breaking 170 in the final and she also provided a substantial platform for Australia’s semi-final win, with a century. Producing big scores in crucial games is a sure way to underline your importance in the team.Lanning is a high-achieving leader who maintains her standing with continual success.The thing that strikes you about her batting is her technique. Not only is it built on traditional lines, it also provides her with ample time to play her chosen shot. Her technique is as good as most.The other aspect is her ability to produce match-defining scores at crucial times. This was again highlighted during the World Cup, with her 135 not out after Australia lost an early wicket in the vital round game against South Africa.Lanning now has ten centuries in winning ODI chases. That kind of successful consistency will help cement any leader’s position.In addition to her batting ability, she has been a good and studious leader. Her captaincy has evolved and she handles a capable but varied attack and injury setbacks comfortably.The improved depth and quality of the squad will be pleasing to her. Australia’s dominance is no fluke. The demanding nature of the competitions Australia play, from inter-state series to the highly competitive WBBL, and the way salary escalation has been implemented, are lessons to all concerned.The improvement in women’s cricket is obvious from the enormous increase in team totals. While the rapid improvement is visible in Australia’s dominance, the increase in scoring rates – improved by nearly two runs per over in three decades – has been apparent throughout the women’s game.The other area where rapid development has been made is fielding. Not only is the ground work much improved but the standard of catching and throwing has risen quickly. The BCCI is now recognising the value of developing the women’s game and intends to hold an expanded IPL competition soon.Along with these rapid improvements has come increased prize money and greater attendance, as indicated by the near capacity crowd at the MCG for the 2020 women’s standalone T20 final.Other teams now need to raise their standard to meet the demanding challenge set by Australia. This will be a tough assignment, especially while the strong-minded Lanning is in charge.

Mike Greenwell, the former Red Sox left fielder and franchise Hall of Famer, has died at the age of 62, it was announced Thursday. His death comes only months after he revealed his medullary thyroid cancer diagnosis in August.

In a message on Facebook, his wife, Tracy, said Greenwell died at 10:30 a.m. in Boston's General Hospital, per WINK-TV, a CBS affiliate in Southwest Florida.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Commissioner Mike Greenwell, a lifelong Lee County resident,” said officials from Lee County, Fla., where Greenwell served as county commissioner, in a post on social media. “He was a strong advocate for the people and businesses of Lee County and will be remembered for seeking meaningful solutions to the challenges his community faced. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his leadership.”

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Red Sox Hall of Famer Mike Greenwell," added the Red Sox in a statement of the team's own. "'The Gator' spent his entire career in a Red Sox uniform and was a beloved fixture of Fenway and Fort Myers. He gave so much to Lee County and Sox Nation. We send our love to the Greenwell family."

Greenwell, a two-time All-Star and 1988 AL MVP runner-up, was selected in the third round of the 1982 MLB draft and played from 1985 to '96. Over his 12 seasons in the league, he recorded a career batting average of 0.303 with an OPS of 0.831.

In 2022, he was appointed to Lee County commissioner following the death of then-commissioner Franklin Mann, and was re-elected in 2024.

Rafael Devers is set to face the Boston Red Sox for the first time since they traded him to the San Francisco Giants last Sunday.

One of the key issues that led to the Red Sox trading Devers was that he was unwilling to play first base for the franchise. Devers was the Red Sox's longtime third baseman, until they acquired Alex Bregman this offseason and chose to have him play that position. Devers wanted to continue playing third base, but ultimately agreed to take on the designated hitter role by the start of the season.

In May, the Red Sox asked Devers to fill in at first base after Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury. Devers expressed frustration with the Red Sox trying to make him play another position, and about a month later, Devers would ultimately get traded to the Giants.

In what appeared to be a sudden turn of events after coming to San Francisco, Devers said he was "here to play whatever they want me to play" after joining the Giants. The Giants plan to use him at designated hitter and try him out at first base. San Francisco's top prospect, Bryce Eldrige, appears to still be the team's long-term answer at first base.

Before Friday's game against the Red Sox, Devers was asked why he's now willing to play first base with the Giants when he wasn't okay with doing so for Boston.

Devers responded, "I would say that I had some good numbers over at Boston, and I think that I do feel that I have earned some respect. If they would had asked me at the beginning of Spring Training, yes I would have."

Devers did not feel respected by the Red Sox trying to keep having him switch positions, especially since it is not easy to quickly learn a new position. The Giants' brass had conversations with Devers about his position when he joined the team, and are not rushing him into playing first base during a game either, which seems to be the key difference in the approach from each team. Devers remains a designated hitter for the Giants at the moment, and will not play first base against the Red Sox this series.

Ultimately, it appears that the organizational approach—not playing first base in itself—was the deal breaker for Devers when the Red Sox tried having him play first base.
