Aston Villa fans delighted Nakamba is unlikely to sign

[ad_pod ]

According to a report from Belgian journalist Tomas Taecke, Aston Villa’s move for Club Brugge midfielder Marvelous Nakamba is completely gone.

The Zimbabwe international, who has been capped 12 times, was the subject of interest from the club last month but any move now looks unlikely to happen.

According to another report in Belgium, Nakamba had skipped training in a bid to force through a move to the Villans.

And with recent developments, it appears Villa fans are delighted that he won’t actually be joining. Many took a swipe at the 25-year-old’s attitude as one claimed he sounded like a troublemaker. Another supporter said that his attitude was ringing alarm bells.

There seemed to be a sense of relief among the Villa Park faithful as a further fan simply uttered that it was good news.

Nakamba starred for Club Brugge in the Champions League last term alongside recent Villa acquisition Wesley. The defensive midfielder won 4.4 tackles per game whilst also completing three interceptions per outing during his five matches.

Spurs target Lo Celso not on Eriksen’s level when it comes to intricate creativity

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Giovani Lo Celso could make a huge move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, per the Daily Mirror.

The Real Betis midfielder could become the club’s record signing, with a £70m fee mooted. It would eclipse the £53.8m that was paid earlier this summer for midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

What exactly would the Argentina international bring to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though?

Per Understat, Lo Celso is most often deployed as an attacking midfielder and he is a remarkably intricate player.

He made a total of 27 key passes in the 2018/19 season and 18 of them came in the penalty area. A key pass in this metric means a pass leading to a shot. He had just seven outside of the box.

Seven of his goals – he scored nine in La Liga – came in the penalty area, too, with only one coming from outside. One came from inside the six-yard box.

Indeed, Lo Celso had the highest expected goals (xG) rate in the area as well as the highest expected assists (xA) number compared to anywhere else on the pitch.

To analyse his shot map is to see a player who regularly tries the spectacular; he missed seven efforts from outside the box and five from inside. His goal actually came from inside the D, too, rather than being a 30-yard screamer.

His creative output, though, pales in comparison with the man he could replace: Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark international confirmed after the Champions League final that he could leave the club this summer but his intricacy is unmatched by Lo Celso.

Per Understat, Eriksen laid on 73 key passes last season – 46 more than the Betis star – and 42 of them came in the penalty area. He registered seven assists in the area to Lo Celso’s three.

However, the current Spurs star scored just twice inside the box, with an xG of 2.15.

Lo Celso, then, is an option that adds something the club do not already have. He is a less nuanced attacking threat than Eriksen but he does score more goals.

He needs to pass the ball more, though, and attempt to find his team-mates on a more regular basis.

Spurs are a bigger club than Betis and they have the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min to call upon. If Lo Celso is passing the ball to those three, his stats will likely increase.

But, even still, he will have to go some way to match the creative output presented by Eriksen.

West Ham fans discuss Mark Noble alternatives for club captaincy

[ad_pod ]On Sunday night, a number of West Ham United fans took part in an interesting debate on Twitter regarding the captaincy at the club.Club icon Mark Noble will once again wear the armband in the new season, but there might well be occasions where the 32-year-old is not in the XI.Indeed, the midfielder did miss seven Premier League matches during the 2018-19 campaign and there will be added competition during the new season. Many of the West Ham fans responded when a fan account claimed that Fabian Balbuena should be the skipper when Noble is not in the team for one reason or another. It would be fair to say that not too many agreed with the Balbuena suggestion, but many offered up alternatives, with Declan Rice, Jack Wilshere and Lukasz Fabianski being mentioned as possible suitors for the captaincy.Watch West Ham United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Spurs may be forced to pay up for top target Giovani Lo Celso

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Real Betis are confident that Tottenham Hotspur will up their bid for attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso because the transfer deadline is looming, per Diario de Sevilla.

What’s the word?

Spurs have been tracking Lo Celso throughout the summer transfer window.

Football FanCast sources have confirmed that the club remain in negotiations with Betis over a deal that will see the Argentina international move to north London prior to the transfer deadline.

The new report claims that Spurs have made a bid worth €50m (£45.7m) for the 23-year-old, though Betis are holding out for a higher fee.

And the Spanish club are now said to be confident that, due to the fact the English transfer window closes next Thursday, Spurs will increase their offer as they look to finally complete the protracted transfer.

Out-Levy’d

Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain.

This is a well-established fact and even Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former Manchester United manager, talked up the negotiating skills of the Spurs chairman.

But it appears that his tactic of drawing this deal out in order to lower the price has backfired.

Indeed, if this new report is true, it is Betis who have the advantage, as they know Spurs have just over a week left to get their business sewn up.

There is said to be interest from Napoli, too, with Lo Celso drawing admirers from across the continent.

That has only weakened Levy’s hand; now he faces a simple choice between paying up or allowing a top target to slip through his fingers.

West Ham flop Jordan Hugill gets everyone talking with debut QPR goal

[ad_pod ]

QPR, Preston and West Ham fans alike have all been reacting to the Hoops’ 2-1 win over Stoke, as Jordan Hugill scored just eight minutes into his debut.

After playing just three times during his stay in east London, it’s fair to say West Ham fans were happy to see the back of Hugill.

The striker joined from Preston back in January of 2018, and his nightmare stay with the Hammers ended this summer as he made the move across London to join Mark Warburton’s side on a season-long loan.

He wasted no time endearing himself to his new fans either, pouncing to score after a mistake from Stoke stopper Jack Butland.

Eberechi Eze produced a superb solo goal in the second half to double the lead, and Sam Clucas could only find a consolation for the Potters.

Hugill had a decent but not amazing record at Deepdale, racking up 30 goals in 114 appearances, and it seems all the 27 year-old needed was a jump back down to the second tier to find his stride.

Loads of fans have been reacting to his goal and overall performance, and you can see some of the best tweets down below…

Liverpool fans unimpressed with Joe Gomez’s defending in 4-1 win over Norwich

[ad_pod ]

Despite securing a 4-1 win on the opening day of the Premier League season, all was not completely rosy in the Liverpool garden.

The Reds raced off to a four-goal lead by half-time, but there were moments where they looked defensively shaky. Their problems at the back eventually led to Norwich striker Teemu Pukki grabbing a consolation in the second-half, and one man who Liverpool fans weren’t happy with was Joe Gomez.

The England international had a difficult night at the back alongside Virgil van Dijk, and seemed to struggle with the off-the-ball movement of Pukki.

After seeing Gomez’s problems on Friday night, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to voice their concerns about the defender’s performance.

[ad_pod ]

Many blasted the 22-year-old’s defensive discipline and even suggested he could go on to “ruin” the club’s season if he continued to perform like that.

Indeed, some urged Jurgen Klopp to start Joel Matip ahead of Gomez for the side’s next clash, and insisted the Cameroon international is a far better centre-back option.

Everton fans fondly remember Marouane Fellaini’s time at club

[ad_pod ]

It would be fair to say that Marouane Fellaini never really won over the Manchester United fans during his six years at the club.

However, the Everton supporters seemingly still remember the 6 foot 4 Belgian fondly.

Fellaini joined the Toffees from Standard Liege in 2008 and went on to make 177 appearances for the Merseyside giants – scoring 33 times in the process.

The 2012-13 campaign was particularly strong for the midfielder as he managed 11 Premier League goals for the English club.

And when Everton’s official Twitter account posted a video of Fellaini scoring against Man United, a number of the Toffees fans praised the now 31-year-old.

Fellaini’s career has taken somewhat of a strange turn with the Belgium international now turning out for Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League.

But a number of Everton supporters have praised the powerhouse, with one individual even claiming that he should never have left Goodison Park.

Leeds fans slam Jack Clarke after being dragged off at half time versus Stoke

[ad_pod ]

Jack Clarke is yet again the topic of debate among Leeds fans after a rather poor showing against Stoke on Tuesday evening.

The 18-year-old was dragged off at half time with the Whites 2-0 down in the Carabao Cup, ultimately receiving a match rating of 5 from Yorkshire Evening Post.

He struggled down the left-hand side and after initial concerns were expressed about his loan spell, supporters have now openly criticised his play and attitude.

Leeds were able to come back and score twice before losing on penalties but the teenager’s display was questionable according to some supporters on Twitter.

One said that he’d be lucky to play ten games this season as another stated that the winger wasn’t performing at all.

A further individual claimed that he thought Clarke was disinterested whilst his mentality was also slammed by one fan.

Clarke earned a move to Tottenham during the summer but has struggled for opportunities after returning to Elland Road on loan.

He is yet to feature in the Championship and has been restricted to two outings in the League Cup, one of which he featured at right wing-back.

Celtic fans loved Hatem Elhamed’s display in the Old Firm derby

Celtic were the victors from the Old Firm derby on Sunday as goals from Odsonne Edouard and Jonny Hayes settled the game.

The Hoops took the lead in the first half and then sealed things late on when they found room on the counter.

Neil Lennon’s side looked comfortable for large parts of the match, particularly in defence, as they kept a clean sheet.

A large part of that was down to the performance of Hatem Elhamed, who earned plenty of praise from supporters after the match on Twitter.

The 28-year-old was hailed as unreal and fantastic whilst one individual suggested he was the best player on the park at Ibrox on Sunday.

A fellow fan claimed he was the best right back in the division as another went as far as saying he’d now have a statue built for him.

The Israel international signed this summer from Hapoel Be’er Sheva and has made five appearances since joining.

This was his second league start and on the evidence of this showing, plenty more will be on the way.
