Come on, Jurgen: Klopp is wrong to call out Pep Guardiola

[ad_pod ]

In an exchange of words detailed by the Express, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has mocked Pep Guardiola for his comments regarding the Champions League and the Premier League.

After his Manchester City side were knocked out of the famous competition by Spurs in April, the Spaniard said: “I know people say I came here to win the Champions League, but I didn’t come here to win the Champions League, honestly.

“I have said many times the Premier League, for me, is the most important title, showing every three days that you are there. Being there every time sends out a good message.”

Luis Suarez certainly had no qualms about celebrating against his former employers in the video below…

Having been notified about Guardiola’s comments in a press conference of his own ahead of the Champions League final, Klopp replied: “Pep has to say that as he hasn’t been in the Champions League final for a while.”

As much as the supporters love him, that is fairly childish from the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

Winning the Premier League title over the course of a tiring 38-game campaign in one of the hardest divisions in world football – without a winter break as well – is up there with the hardest tasks in football.

Of course, the Champions League is also extremely difficult to win. However, in that competition, you play just 13 games in which you can still progress even if you’re not at your best – both finalists in Liverpool and Tottenham almost went out at the group stage.

There is no chance of salvation in the Premier League if you slip up like that, not these days anyway. The Reds barely put a foot wrong, losing just a single game, but they couldn’t manage to win the title.

Klopp is one of football’s good guys and it is hard to dislike him, but he shouldn’t be speaking on this topic as if he is superior to Guardiola in the Champions League.

The former Barcelona boss has lifted the famous old trophy twice in his managerial career, whereas Klopp has never won it; his achievements in leading Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool to the final against all odds are impressive, but he should refrain from calling out Guardiola until he tastes success in Europe too.

So harsh: Tottenham fans think Lucas Moura should’ve started the CL final

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to drop Lucas Moura for the Champions League final, with the majority feeling that he should’ve started.

It was the Brazilian’s incredible 45-minute hat-trick against Ajax that got the north Londoners into the final in the first place, so it was extremely harsh of Pochettino to place him on the bench against Liverpool.

Should Spurs sell Kieran Trippier? Check out the for and against in the video below…

Admittedly, when a world class striker such as Harry Kane – the side’s talisman – declares himself fit for the biggest game in the club’s history, it makes it very, very tough for Pochettino to leave the No.10 out as well.

However, given the fact that the England international hadn’t played for almost two months before the game in Madrid, Lucas really should’ve started for a number of reasons.

Kane ultimately put in a terrible performance and did next to nothing on what was an easy night for Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip, and a number of Spurs fans on Twitter think Lucas deserved to start…

Hope to see you in the first team: Everton fans react to Matty Foulds contract news

[ad_pod ]

Everton announced on Tuesday that 21-year-old defender Matty Foulds had signed a new one-year contract with the Toffees.

Foulds’ previous deal at Goodison Park was due to expire this summer but he will spend at least one more season with the Merseyside outfit.

The defender was part of the club’s double-winning Under-23 side last term.

And he has now been rewarded with a new contract.

Foulds – a 2016 arrival from Bury – is yet to make his first-team debut for Marco Silva’s side and it is unclear whether he is in the plans of the Portuguese.

However, penning an extension is always a step in the right direction and Foulds will now be hoping to continue his development during the 2019-20 campaign.

Shortly after the club announcement, the Under-23 ace took to social media to reveal his delight at penning an extension.

And that led to a number of Everton fans responding to the contract news – a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Past his best: Tottenham fans are against swoop for Perisic

[ad_pod ]

According to FCInterNews, Ivan Perisic’s agent will fly to London this week to hold discussions with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential move for his client.

Perisic, who helped Croatia reach the final of the 2018 World Cup with a string of fine performances, scored nine times and registered eight assists in 45 appearances for Inter Milan during the 2018-19 campaign.

It would probably be fair to say that last season was not Perisic’s finest, although there is no doubting that the Croatian is a fine player with a lot of quality.

According to FCInterNews, the 30-year-old’s agent is heading to the English capital ahead of a potential move to the Premier League in this summer’s transfer window.

However, it would be fair to say that the Tottenham fans are not interested in a swoop for the attacker ahead of the 2019-20 season.

The Verdict: Would Harry Wilson be a good signing for Aston Villa?

[ad_pod ]

Harry Wilson was one of the star players in the Championship last season, finding the back of the net in the league on 16 occasions.

The winger was in mesmeric form for Derby as they ironically lost in the play-off final to the side now interested in his services.

The Mirror claim that Liverpool have put a £21m price tag on the 22-year-old who has attracted the eyes of Aston Villa.

It’s a transfer that could be hotly contested with a number of clubs also keen, per the report. In England, Leicester are among the parties who could make a move whilst there is further interest from abroad. Also on alert are Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig, Getafe and Valencia.

The array of clubs pondering a deal are hugely impressive given he’s only shown what he’s capable of in England’s second tier so far.

However, his performances on the pitch more than warrant a switch to a club in a higher division after starring in the Championship.

And with a move to Villa potentially on the cards, Football FanCast writers have given their verdicts on whether buying Wilson would be good business for Dean Smith’s men. Here’s what they’ve had to say.

Charles Jones:

“Harry Wilson could be a brilliant signing for Aston Villa even at £21m. Of course, the worry is that he has no Premier League experience, but you only have to look at James Maddison to show you how well players can do when coming from from the Championship. There’s an argument to be made that Wilson had a better season at Derby than Maddison had at Norwich before his move to Leicester, and if he can make the step-up in a similar fashion £21m would be an absolute steal.”

Billy Meyers:

“This is a lot of money for a newly promoted team to spend, and a deal that doesn’t seem necessary to me. There’s much better value elsewhere for players who can do a similar job, such as Said Benrahma from Brentford, who set up far more goals than Wilson last year and scored just a handful less than the Welshman. Villa should look elsewhere.”

Jack Saville:

“The Wilson situation is an intriguing one. How often have we seen a Championship star fail to make the grade at the elite level? However, it’s clear from his technique that he is unlikely to become another Championship specialist, and at just £21m Villa could land one of the signings of the summer. £20m James Maddison fell into that category during his maiden Premier League campaign with Leicester last season, and there is plenty of evidence from Wilson’s time with both Derby and Hull City to suggest the free-kick specialist could be on a similar path.”

How Aston Villa’s starting XI could look once the new season arrives

[ad_pod ]

Aston Villa’s side on the opening weekend of the Premier League season could look completely different to what they finished last term with.

Given they will have made the leap from the Championship it’s hardly a surprise.

Yet as they gear up for a clash with Tottenham in what will be an incredibly difficult start, who could be setting foot in Dean Smith’s XI? We’ve had a go at predicting how they might look.

To start things off, three out of four of Villa’s confirmed new signings could take their place in the side.

Arguably the most exciting and intriguing of all is Wesley, the £22.25m arrival from Club Brugge.

He looks as though he could be the man tasked with leading the line for the Villans and after being signed for a large fee, it’ll be interesting to monitor how he adapts to the frantic nature of the Premier League.

On the left of him should be Anwar El Ghazi. The Villans did brilliantly to bring him back on a permanent basis and this could be the stage he finally thrives on.

The Dutchman once shone for Ajax in the Eredivisie, scoring 11 times in 2015/16 so he could be a real wildcard in the top-flight next term.

Also in the side is Kortney Hause who will relish a chance to get stuck into Premier League life after failing to start a single top-flight game for Wolves after they were promoted.

However, fellow new signing Jota may have to settle for a place on the bench considering Villa’s pursuit of Said Benrahma.

If he arrives, he could play on the right wing ahead of a midfield trio that looks to have everything.

Jack Grealish and John McGinn will likely keep their place but behind them, they may well find reported target Kalvin Phillips. The regimented midfielder had a superb campaign with Leeds last term and would offer solid protection in front of the back four if he signs.

Defensively, there could be new arrivals in the form of Neil Etheridge, Matt Targett and Adam Webster who have all been linked with potential moves.

The first two names would be particularly good signings given how they performed in the Premier League last term.

Etheridge was named Cardiff’s Player of the Season whilst we’ve already documented the attacking nature Targett could bring to the side.

Panini Tabloid Sticker Pack – Tottenham fan George Achillea gets Harry Kane

Harry Kane returned from an injury lay-off in February and immediately scored three goals in five matches as he looked to win the Golden Boot for the third time in four seasons.

Unfortunately, an injury sustained against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final ruled him out for the Premier League season, and he missed out top scorer status.

George Achilia, who can be seen in the video above filling out his Panini Tabloid, believes that had Kane not been injured, he would have picked up a third Golden Boot of his career.

Kane, despite missing ten games, still finished up with 17 goals, showing just how lethal a striker he is.

Leeds fans ecstatic after Costa signing

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are absolutely buzzing after the signing of Helder Costa was officially announced by the club.

The Whites have been linked with the Wolves man for weeks, but now they’ve finally confirmed the signing.

The 25-year-old arrives at Elland Road on an initial one-year loan deal which will become permanent next summer for around £15m, according to reports.

It’s been no secret that Marcelo Bielsa has wanted to strengthen his wide areas this summer, and he has done exactly that with the signing of Jack Harrison and now Costa.

The Whites’ new signing put up some exceptional numbers last time he was in the Championship, so the Yorkshire club might have a real player on their hands.

This signing has had United supporters overjoyed, and they took to social media to share their thoughts on the club’s announcement.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on Twitter…
