Kamara can be Guardiola’s Fernandinho heir

Manchester City have been linked with Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara recently and the Frenchman could be the ideal long-term heir to Fernandinho in Pep Guardiola’s side.

According to Blue Moon, Manchester City and Juventus are interested in the 21-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.

The £33.3m-rated youngster is a product of Marseille’s youth academy and has already made 122 appearances for the senior side in his career, contributing three goals and five assists.

Kamara was a mainstay at the Stade Vélodrome this season, making 35 appearances in Ligue 1 and averaging an impressive 6.94 rating for his performances from WhoScored.

He started both of Marseille’s defeats against Manchester City this season in the Champions League, which will have allowed Guardiola to get a good look at him, and if the reports claiming the Citizens are interested in him are true, then it seems clear that he liked what he saw.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-manchester-city-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Manchester City transfer rumours and news!”]

If he were to make the switch to the Etihad this summer, then he could prove to be the man to replace Fernandinho for the Citizens, as the Brazilian is still yet to officially sign a new contract with the club, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Although it has been widely reported that the 36-year-old will agree to a one-year extension, it seems likely that next season will be his last in a Manchester City shirt, and therefore, Guardiola will need someone such as Kamara to compete with Rodri in the defensive-midfield role.

Kamara could be ideal as, like Fernandinho, he is more than capable of dropping back into a centre-back role, having played there regularly for Marseille in his career thus far.

The Frenchman scores impressively when it comes to tackles per game (2.5) and pass success rate (86.7%), compared to Fernandinho’s 1.5 tackles and 87.2% pass success rate in the Premier League, which suggests that he could definitely succeed the former Shakhtar Donetsk man at the Etihad this summer, so Txiki Begiristain should definitely consider bringing him in.

And, in other news… Man City massively missed out on £36m-rated PL beast, Pep dubbed him “one of the best”

Wolves fans on Ait-Nouri transfer update

Many Wolves fans have been left to buzz as a transfer update emerged on Rayan Ait-Nouri.

As per the Daily Telegraph, the Midlands club are in talks with Angers over a permanent deal for the left-back, following his loan spell at Molineux in the 2020/21 season.

The Wanderers currently have an option to buy him for £20m, but may wait until the announcement of a new manager first of all in order to confirm whether they would like to bring Ait-Nouri back.

The 19-year-old made a great impression among several WWFC supporters for his performances over the course of the last campaign, ranking highly among his teammates in terms of average tackles (1.4), key passes (0.7), dribbles (1.2), pass success (86.1%) and crosses (0.6) per game in the Premier League (Whoscored).

Thus, it is no surprise to hear that a lot of them would like the Frenchman to return, especially given that they can see him play in the flesh with the return of supporters to stadiums.

Leeds must avoid selling Illan Meslier

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa must avoid selling Illan Meslier this summer amid recent comments from his agent about Paris Saint-Germain’s transfer interest.

What’s the story?

According to previous reports from The National, the French giants have identified Meslier as a more attainable option than the likes of Hugo Lloris and David de Gea, and are considering making a bid for the Leeds man this summer – it’s added that a switch to Paris could well tempt the 21-year-old.

Yvon Pouliquen, head of the Foot Conseil player agency which represents the Leeds man, has said: “PSG are watching, but Illan’s goal is to play, especially at his age. He has just had his first season in the Premier League, he will have to confirm (his level) in the second.

“Going to PSG to take over from (Keylor) Navas in a year or two, and not play, what’s the point? His development would be much greater by continuing to play at Leeds or elsewhere. He left Lorient so as not to sit on a bench.”

Meslier has been outstanding

In his debut campaign in the Premier League, Meslier showed the kind of enormous potential he possesses, helping to keep an impressive 11 clean sheets, good enough to place him joint-fifth in the division.

Speaking previously on The Inside Elland Road Podcast, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth said: “He’s been great, hasn’t he? For a 20-year-old, for £5m, I mean Victor Orta – it feels almost illegal what he’s done getting a player of that quality at that age for £5m, remarkable business.”

The young Frenchman’s ability with his feet has always been one of his standout attributes, with Jermaine Beckford raving: “The kid is incredible. I was watching the game (against Everton) and there were a couple of moments, (Dominic) Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and James (Rodriguez) had chances, but Meslier stood in their way. His distribution is one of the best in the Premier League.”

His performances in the Premier League have seen his value shoot up, with CIES now rating him at a huge £26m, and that’s a real statement on just how much he has grown.

Given how he has usurped Kiko Casilla into becoming Leeds United’s undisputed number one, cashing in on his this summer, would surely have Bielsa livid at losing one of his key players.

Much of the summer talk will no doubt be centred around Raphinha amid links with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, but going into the new season without their first-choice goalkeeper would be a hammer blow to Bielsa’s side.

While his agent’s comments are reassuring, the Whites must ensure they don’t get tempted into selling him even if a big-money bid comes in from Paris this summer.

Meanwhile, this Premier League star has been offered to Leeds…

Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to potential points deduction

Many Sheffield Wednesday fans have been riled this afternoon after journalist Alan Nixon issued a worrying 31-word update relating to potential points deductions for the Yorkshiremen.

Communicating to his large Twitter following, Nixon stated: “Sheff Wed. PFA want all players to submit claims for lost money. Danger is some who have left go to EFL to lodge complaint and that would mean poss points penalties.”

Worryingly, this claim could feasibly put the Hillsborough club at a severe disadvantage moving into 2021/22, when they are set to ply their trade in League One for the first time since 2012 [The Football Press]. Potential points sanctions could make a return to the Championship a near-impossible task for the Owls.

Reportedly owing wages to players dating back to 2020, the amount owed has now surpassed £12m [Yorkshire Live], while unpopular owner Dejphon Chansiri has been called upon by some supporters to sell the club. Deeply irked by recent events, loads of Sheffield Wednesday fans took to Twitter to fume at the “farcical” news.

Wolves transfer update on Ramsdale

Many Wolves fans have bene left to slam a transfer update involving Aaron Ramsdale.

As per the Daily Mail, both the Midlands club as well as Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Sheffield United goalkeeper in the summer window.

He could be lined up as a potential replacement for Rui Patricio, who only has one year left on his current deal at Molineux, with AS Roma reportedly keen.

Ramsdale comes off the back of a very poor 2020/21 season for the Blades, as he conceded no fewer than 68 goals in 42 games in all competitions and only managed to keep just six clean sheets (Transfermarkt), seeing his side relegated from the Premier League down to the EFL Championship.

The 23-year-old was also relegated with AFC Bournemouth the season before, and so it is not a surprise to see so many members of the Molineux faithful opposed to the potential deal.

Villa’s owners want James Ward-Prowse signed

Aston Villa have been handed a transfer update on their pursuit of England and Southampton star James Ward-Prowse, and it should leave fans buzzing.

What’s the story?

According to recent reports from The Guardian, Smith is keen on landing the midfielder this summer  – a move that would fit in with what the Villa boss recently had to say about the club’s transfer plans and signing Premier League proven players.

Now, Football Insider claim that “Aston Villa owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris will throw their financial might behind the bid to lure James Ward-Prowse from Southampton.”

It’s added: “A Villa source has told Football Insider that billionaire owners Edens and Sawiris are backing Smith to the hilt for a third consecutive summer as they look to build on the club-record capture of Emiliano Buendia last week. The owners are keen for a deal to be finalised in time for the midfielder to be at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground for the start of pre-season.”

Dean Smith will be buzzing

As Southampton captain, and that too at only 26, the midfielder is the cornerstone of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, and it’s no surprise the Saints boss has waxed lyrical about him.

Speaking about Ward-Prowse’s influence, he said: “You have to walk out there and always be the role model of what we are standing for. When you see him running and him fighting for everything in every game then this is what a captain should do.

“Not speaking in the dressing room or telling people how it works, but showing it on the pitch how it works. For me, this is how a captain should be.”

The news that NSWE will be backing Smith to the hilt this summer with potential new signings, including getting a big-money deal for Ward-Prowse over the line, should be music to the ears of the Villa boss.

Smith showed last season in the Premier League that with the right kind of financial backing, he can work wonders – you only have to look at the signings of Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez and how they turned them into a team just outside the top ten to see that.

Having that same kind of commitment from the owners this time around is a recipe for success, and the Villa boss will be absolutely buzzing with this latest transfer update.

Meanwhile, Villa could deliver another Buendia masterclass with this star…

Palmer worried following West Brom sporting director development

Former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer has told Football FanCast in an exclusive interview that the Baggies not hiring a new sporting director could be bad news for the club’s manager.

Luke Dowling recently left the position and it looks like the Midlands outfit are not looking to appoint a direct replacement.

According to Football Insider, West Brom plan to scrap the director of football model they currently have at the club and will instead allow their manager to work directly with the recruitment team on transfers.

Palmer, however, fears the lack of a director of football or sporting director just leaves room for the owner or chairman to interfere in football matters.

“It’s bad news. It sounds like the chairman [or owner] is trying to call the shots, and you can’t do that.

“If you’ve got a chairman who knows the game, then that’s fine. But if you’ve got a chairman who doesn’t know the game…”

All in all, it would be an interesting move, with a lot of clubs today having a director of football, as Football Insider points out.

But perhaps it could work out, if the manager is actually in control and does not have the owner or chairman overruling him on football matters.

Everton transfer update on Sergio Romero

Lots of Everton fans have been left delighted as the Goodison Park club are reportedly in talks to sign Sergio Romero.

That is according to The Athletic, who added that both Juventus and Celta Vigo are also interested in his signature as he is set to leave on a free transfer in the summer window after his current deal at Manchester United ends.

With Robin Olsen seemingly going back to AS Roma after his loan spell at Goodison Park ends, the Toffees will need to bring in another goalkeeper to challenge Jordan Pickford between the posts.

Given Romero’s experience in English football, and the fact that he would be available for free, it presents a good opportunity for the Blues to snap him up.

Everton in the race to sign Merih Demiral

Everton don’t have a first-team manager in place but that shouldn’t stop Marcel Brands and co from neglecting the transfer market.

We are now a few weeks into the window but any sign of activity from Goodison Park is being brought to a halt while they hunt for a new head coach.

What’s the word?

One player the new Everton manager could look to sign this summer is Juventus centre-half Merih Demiral.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the Merseyside outfit and Tottenham are set to battle it out for the Turk’s signature this summer.

They are the only clubs interested in signing the defender per the report, who state that Juve are keen to sell the 23-year-old.

Demiral was valued at €40m (£34.5m) a few months ago so it could be a pricey deal for any suitor to complete.

Must swoop

If you’ve been watching the ongoing European Championships, then it’s likely you’d be against this signing.

After all, supposed dark horses Turkey were one of the worst teams at the tournament.

They failed to qualify from a group involving Italy, Wales and Switzerland as they scored just one goal and conceded eight.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-everton-manager-transfer-nuno-conte-wood-marcelo” title= “Read the latest Everton manager and transfer news!”]

Demiral was part of that shoddy backline but his qualities weren’t fairly reflected during the opening fortnight of competition.

In short, the central defender is an “absolute beast” in the words of talent scout Jacek Kulig.

He was an animal for Juventus last term, using immense strength and brute force to bully defenders.

The Turkey international won 2.2 aerial duels per game in the Champions League and prevailed in 3.6 aerial battles during his country’s Nations League campaign. For context, that second tally was only bettered by Dominic Calvert-Lewin in 2020/21.

A battling performer, he is willing to fight your cause until the bitter end. Speaking exclusively to Football Fancast, Serie A expert Conor Clancy said: “He can pass the ball well and he’s a little bit old school as well so he’s more than happy to go into the trenches and he will go to war with a striker if he needs to, and I think he improves any team he goes into.”

Everton are evidently in the mood to sign more defenders this term and they could combine the ruthless power of Demiral with the sensational physical traits that Denzel Dumfries possesses.

Described as a “freight train” by the BBC commentary team for his rampant runs down the right-hand side for the Netherlands at Euro 2020, he’s another player to be linked with the Toffees.

Everton were thought to be facing competition from Bayern Munich but their interest has reportedly died down.

Both players have tremendous strength and could be quite the duo in defence for Everton next season.

They are capable of terrifying forwards with their mighty presence and they are both individuals you’d want in the trenches beside you.

As Everton’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City on the final day of the campaign tells us, they need players who aren’t going to roll over easily.

Marcel Brands would seal two magnificent deals by luring them to Merseyside over the coming months.

West Ham: Fans fume at update on Vladimir Coufal’s future

West Ham are continuing to hold talks with Vladimir Coufal’s representatives over a new contract with the club, according to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth.

But the reporter has revealed that Coufal’s representatives are disappointed with what’s being offered by the Hammers, with his current deal expected to expire in the summer of 2023.

Coufal signed for West Ham back in 2020, and has gone on to make 36 appearances in total for the London-based side, catching the eye with some strong performances in the 2020/21 season and chipping with seven assists in his first season in English football.

West Ham boss David Moyes labelled Coufal as ‘brilliant’ for his performance against Leicester City during the 2020/21 season.

The full-back is currently on international duty with Czech Republic, who are set to take on Denmark for a place in the semi-finals of the European Championships.

Moyes’ side finished sixth in the Premier League table last term, and will be hoping they can go from strength to strength heading into new campaign, which is set to get underway in August, but the uncertainty around key players like Coufal and Declan Rice will not help.

Plenty of West Ham supporters took to social media to voice their frustrations on this update on the club’s efforts to tie Coufal down to a new contract.

Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below, where one supporter labelled the owners as ‘disgraceful’…
