Liverpool fans erupt over Felix update

Flocking to Twitter, many Liverpool fans have been left buzzing as some news emerges involving their club’s transfer plans and Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently flying high both domestically and in Europe, but with January around the corner, it could be a chance to strengthen their options and better the odds of a Premier League title triumph.

The Reds are currently battling it out with both Manchester City and Chelsea for supremacy but their rivals also possess real squad depth, leading to some concerns they could struggle without sufficient back up for key players.

Now, Cadena SER (via LFC Transfer Room) have some news involving Liverpool as they make an approach to sign La Liga striker Felix.

It is believed that the club have asked about signing him for Klopp and Atletico are open to the idea of selling, even as soon as the winter window.

However, Liverpool and Fenway Sports Group will have to make a sizeable offer to tempt the Spanish giants as their manager Diego Simeone needs reinvestment for his own transfer plans.

Liverpool fans buzz…

Despite his lack of game time under Simeone this season, Felix’s plaudits in the past highlight a player with sky high potential, with former Lokomotiv Moscow coach Yuri Semen even claiming he could be as big as Cristiano Ronaldo.

His stellar 2018/2019 campaign with former club Benfica, where he racked up a brilliant 15 goals and seven assists in 21 Primeira Liga starts (WhoScored), earned him a stunning £113 million move to Spain.

While he has arguably failed to standout on a consistent enough basis, at just 22-years-old, he could feasibly rediscover that form with Liverpool – leaving little wonder some supporters believe he could be the ‘perfect signing’ if they can get it done.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to Selhurst Park image

A number of Crystal Palace fans have been reacting to an official Twitter post from the Eagles regarding the club’s Selhurst Park stadium.

Palace are in the process of redeveloping Selhurst Park, which currently holds a capacity of close to 26,000. Plans to increase that to around 34,000 were given the green light way back in 2018.

Work was set to be completed in time for the 2021/22 season, but as we know, that has failed to materialise due to a number of factors, with recent reports suggesting the redevelopment has been put on hold for a further 12 months.

However, a number of Eagles supporters believe the club may well be hinting at something after they posted a black and white picture on Twitter on Monday afternoon of an old Selhurst Park.

West Brom fans flock to Yokuslu update

Flocking to Twitter, many West Bromwich Albion fans have raved over a transfer update involving former midfielder and fan favourite Okay Yokuslu.

Valerien Ismael’s side, currently sitting just outside the Premier League promotion spots, could be looking to bolster their options in January as the Baggies boss admits that they are working behind the scenes (Express and Star).

Indeed, West Brom apparently have their list of targets drawn up ahead of what could be a crucial winter window for the club.

A striker has been on the agenda according to reports, with The Telegraph even claiming that West Brom are interested in re-signing former forward Dwight Gayle.

However, as news emerges on another former player in Yokuslu, it appears Ismael could now want to bring back another ex-hero.

According to La Voz de Galicia, the Turkey international midfielder wants to return to the Hawthorns over all others and Ismael himself would ‘welcome his return’.

West Brom fans erupt…

Former manager Sam Allardyce praised the 27-year-old during his spell at West Brom last season, saying he’s ‘not far off’ former Real Madrid players Ivan Campo and Fernando Hierro, which should certainly highlight how well he played at times.

Making more interceptions per 90 in midfield than any West Brom player over 2020/2021 in the Premier League (WhoScored), it’s little wonder supporters want to see him back. Find all of their best reactions to this transfer claim down below:

AVFC recall Barry from loan deal

Even though the 2022 January transfer window has now opened, allowing clubs to bring new players in where they see fit, it seems as though Aston Villa have made their first big decision of the year by bringing a familiar face back to the Midlands club.

According to a recent Twitter post from Villa journalist Gregg Evans, it appears that Villa have recalled young striker Louie Barry from his loan deal with League One club Ipswich Town.

Despite saying in his tweet that Barry will now “return to train with the U23s” at Villa and that “another loan move will be arranged before the end of the month” for the 18-year-old, it could be worth Gerrard giving the teenager his chance to integrate himself in the senior squad.

Even though he only made six appearances for Ipswich since arriving back in early August, it may be beneficial for the player to get used to the training procedures and overall feel of what it’s like to be coached by Gerrard from now until the end of the season rather than go out to another club and risk not getting much playing time again.

Although there wouldn’t be a big chance of him playing regularly at Villa this season ahead of the likes of Ollie Watkins or Danny Ings given their experience at senior level, it could be argued that learning from these players and the manager would be useful for the young attacker in the long-term if he wants to get closer to breaking into the team.

Having been praised by former Arsenal and Crystal Palace striker Ian Wright after scoring a “clinical” goal against Liverpool in Villa’s 4-1 FA Cup defeat last year in his first and only senior appearance for the club, Barry could even be a useful option off the bench in some games, especially with reports linking Wesley with an exit from Villa Park this month.

Moving forward, whatever the club decides is the best next step for Barry, it’s safe to say that getting him out of Ipswich early was a good move and that he can now do something more constructive with his time, whether that be with Villa’s U23s or in the senior squad or at another club.

But if Johan Lange wanted to help Gerrard save some money in potential transfer fees this month, it could be worth the teenager staying at Villa Park and learning what he can in the senior squad.

Celtic can axe Bolingoli with Buchanan

In a story that feels as if it has now been rumbling on for the best part of a year, Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side have once again been linked with a move to bring Lee Buchanan to Parkhead in the January transfer window.

Indeed, Derbyshire Live reported on Sunday that the Bhoys – alongside the likes of Nottingham Forest and West Ham United – have renewed their interest in the Derby County left-back, while Watford and other unnamed English sides are also believed to be tracking the 20-year-old ahead of a potential move this month.

It is easy to see why Postecoglou would be interested in securing a deal for the England U20 international this January, as Buchanan is undoubtedly a player who boasts a significant amount of potential, and would appear to be available on something of a cut-price deal – considering the fact his current contract at Pride Park expires at the end of the season, in addition to Derby’s rather dire financial situation.

Furthermore, left-back is an area of the Hoops squad that lacks any real strength in depth, as, behind first-choice Greg Taylor, the Greek-Australian manager has only the options of 19-year-old Adam Montgomery and the outcasted 26-year-old Boli Bolingoli.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/?post_type=web-story&p=664142″ title=”Check out the latest Celtic news!”]

And, with the latter of this trio being linked with a move away from Parkhead this month, a January swoop for Buchanan could well prove to be the final nail in the coffin for the £16k-per-week dud who Neil Lennon once dubbed “selfish.”

Indeed, the Derby defender is undoubtedly a player who has a much higher ceiling than the former Belgium U16 international, with Wayne Rooney stating of the 20-year-old: “He’s a top, top player. I’d argue he’s one of the best young left-backs in the country. And he can go to another level as well. He’s a real top player.”

It is not difficult to see why the former England captain feels this way, as, despite his tender age, the £2.25m-rated full-back has already gone on to make 60 first-team appearances for the Rams – 35 of which came in the Championship last time out, when Buchanan played a key role in helping his side survive relegation to League One on the final day of the season.

As such, when taking into account all of the above, it would indeed appear a very wise move for Postecoglou to finally axe Bolingoli this month, before reinvesting the Belgian’s wages and potential transfer funds into a move for the Derby starlet.

Liverpool fans hail Jarrod Bowen update

A number of Liverpool supporters have reacted positively to claims that the Reds are continuing to track West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen.

The Reds look short of attacking options at the moment, especially with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

The hope is surely that a new addition comes into the squad in the summer transfer window, providing Jurgen Klopp with an extra face who can make a difference in the final third, especially with Mane misfiring this season and still no sign of a new Salah contract.

One player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool is Bowen, who is having an excellent season for West Ham, scoring six goals and registering seven assists in the Premier League.

According to The Athletic‘s James Pearce [via Anfield Watch on Twitter], the Reds are still keeping an eye on the 25-year-old’s progress ahead of a possible bid for him.

ExWHUemployee drops Carroll update

Taking to Twitter, reliable club insider ExWHUemployee has shared the latest West Ham United transfer news as he drops an update on the links to former striker Andy Carroll.

The Lowdown: Carroll spotted?

As shared by WestHamFans.org and relayed by Claret & Hugh, the former England international forward was apparently spotted at the club’s training ground a few days ago.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-updates/” title=”West Ham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

This comes amid manager David Moyes and recruitment chief Rob Newman’s search for a back-up striker, prompting some talk and speculation of a possible re-signing.

C&H were the first to rebuff these claims, with another reliable club insider in ExWHUemployee now sharing what he knows.

The Latest: Ex shares Carroll update…

On his personal social media feed, Ex also poured cold water over the prospect of Carroll re-joining the club.

“Not sure why this Carroll rumour has so much legs, I’ve been told the deal isn’t on,” he explained on Twitter.

Writing on his Patreon also, Ex details the reasons why, citing that both Moyes and the player didn’t enjoy the best relationship and a move for Carroll seems very unlikely at this stage.

The Verdict: Sigh of relief…

Currently a free agent after leaving Reading just days ago, while he has bagged 82 senior career goals since his professional debut, we believe West Ham should avoid a return for the towering 33-year-old.

Other striking targets like Gabriel Barbosa and Adam Hlozek arguably represent more exciting additions at West Ham and ones with far longer shelf lives.

Moyes recently spoke of the importance of finding the ideal targets and not just making signings for the sake of it, with Carroll arguably falling into the latter category.

SAFC make approach to land "exciting" gem

A transfer update has emerged on Sunderland and their interest in Tottenham winger Jack Clarke…

What’s the talk?

According to Football Insider, the Black Cats are eyeing up a potential swoop to sign the attacker before the window slams shut next week.

The report claims that Spurs have given him the green light to head out on loan and Sunderland are one of a number of teams showing interest in his services, having made an approach to bring him in.

McGeady 2.0

Lee Johnson could land a new wing wizard by securing a loan deal for Clarke in the coming days as he could be a fine addition to the squad.

The 21-year-old has not been able to kick on since joining Spurs from Leeds and a move to League One could be his chance to make a breakthrough at senior level and impress on a regular basis. He has the raw qualities to be an excellent player for the Black Cats and could be the next Aiden McGeady on the wing.

He has been restricted to youth team outings of late, with four goals and two assists in his last eight academy matches for Spurs. This is after he made played 14 times in the Championship on loan to Stoke last season, joining Spurs after making 25 appearances for the Lillywhites in the second tier.

Former Leeds man Noel Whelan was effusive in his praise of Clarke prior to the player’s move to Tottenham, saying:

“He’s quite a player, he really is. At the minute I would say he’s better as an impact player, coming off the bench second half when teams are a little bit tired.

“He has got a great ability to glide past players. I don’t think I’ve seen a winger really as talented as that, where it looks effortless, just to take somebody on and he really does get you on the edge of your seat, he’s one of those exciting players.

“He’s only going to get better but once again a player we can only enjoy if we go into the Premier League because there’s teams sniffing around him.”

This provides an insight into the type of player he is as he likes to beat defenders and make things happen. McGeady is a player who has a similar style, with the Irishman holding a career average of 3.1 key passes and dribbles per game, whilst he also has his own signature skill move – the McGeady spin.

Therefore, Clarke could come in and be the club’s McGeady 2.0 if he is able to find his feet and fulfil his potential under Johnson’s management. The Black Cats must now work hard to ensure that they are able to win the race for the wing wizard’s signature.

Dan Burn open to Newcastle move

A big Newcastle United transfer claim has emerged regarding  the club’s pursuit of Brighton’s 6 foot 5 giant Dan Burn…

What’s the talk?

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has revealed whether or not the centre-back is open to the move to Tyneside this month.

He tweeted: “Newcastle are expected to go back in for Brighton defender Dan Burn.  The St James’ Park club have had an initial offer in the region of £8m rejected for the 29-year-old. Burn is a Newcastle fan and we’re told he’d be interested in a potential move back north.”

Buzzing

This news will surely leave Newcastle fans buzzing for several reasons.

Firstly, the defender could help to solve a major problem for Eddie Howe. There is no hiding away from the fact that Newcastle have been poor this season. They have not won enough games and have conceded far too many goals, with Norwich the only team to concede more in the top flight, having played a game more than the Toon, who have let in 43 goals as it stands.

Meanwhile, Burn has been part of a Brighton team which has conceded just 23 times in the Premier League. The defender has averaged an excellent SofaScore rating of 6.96 for the Seagulls this season, showing that he has been consistently delivering good performances to help his team avoid conceding goals.

This suggests that the 29-year-old could come in and improve the Magpies’ backline, as he has proven that he can function as part of an impressive defence on the south coast. Therefore, he could play a part in solving Howe’s defensive issues during the second half of the campaign.

The Toon Army will also be delighted to read that he is one of their own and interested in making the move happen. The fact that he is a Newcastle fan suggests that he would give his all for the club on the pitch and would not just be making the transfer happen to increase his pay packet at the end of the month.

Supporters would surely appreciate a player who is a genuine fan of the club, as they will know that the player will give 100% and care about the city and the people. That is why Burn, in particular, could be a signing that Newcastle fans are buzzing to see happen.

Rangnick must give Henderson FA Cup chance

Manchester United return to action on Friday night against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round, with Ralf Rangnick leading out his team at Old Trafford after a January transfer window full of squad-trimming.

The club didn’t make any signings last month but let go of eight players, including Anthony Martial and Donny Van de Beek, who are both out on loan for the rest of the season.

Rangnick was also at the centre of a media storm during the transfer window, as it was revealed that there were reportedly up to 17 players who wanted to leave the club amid dressing room upset, with Dean Henderson named as one of those.

The goalkeeper has fallen out of favour in the United first team after David de Gea returned to phenomenal form this season, leaving the Englishman with no Premier League starts and just two senior appearances in total across all competitions.

The £16.2m-rated ace was hailed as “exceptional” by his former Sheffield United team-mate Sander Berge, who gushed: “He’s so confident. He knows he is good and he exploits that too. He is exceptional.”

Henderson was linked with a move away from Old Trafford throughout last month, with reported interest from Newcastle United, but nothing materialised and the ‘keeper has remained in Rangnick’s Red Devils squad for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old played a huge part in United’s second-placed finish in the league last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with much more game-time than he is currently experiencing, making 26 appearances across all competitions. In 2020/21, he kept clean sheets in three of four of the Europa League knockout games that he started, and United only one lost game out of 13 when he appeared in their Premier League starting XI.

Henderson clearly proved last season that he deserves first team football, but with De Gea doing so well in his position this season, the 24-year-old’s reported push for a move away from the club speaks volumes that he wants to be the first choice and clearly feels he can only achieve this by leaving Old Trafford.

Tonight’s FA Cup clash is the perfect opportunity for Rangnick to show Henderson that he is still a valued member of the squad and in the manager’s future plans by unleashing him in the starting line up instead of De Gea.
