Jemma Botha admitted being nervous heading out to bat with South Africa chasing 106 against Australia for a place in the Women’s Under-19 World Cup final, but said talking to head coach Dinesha Devnarain and having Simone Lourens alongside calmed her.”I think before the game I spoke to the coach because I was really nervous. But nerves are good. It means that we care,” Botha said after South Africa’s five-wicket win. “And I think if you don’t have nerves going into a semi-final, then you’re not human. Going out to bat with Simis [Lourens] is always nice. I think we complement each other in many ways. She really helps with a lot of my anxiety and my nerves.”Botha came storming out, smashing five fours and two sixes in her 24-ball 37 to set up a solid foundation for the chase. Riding on her knock, South Africa raced to 50 for 2 in the powerplay which made the task easier for the rest of the batters. Captain Kayla Reyneke shepherded the team towards the finishing line.Related

There were a few nervy moments at the end but South Africa won rather comfortably with 11 balls to spare.”Simis going early was… I had a stressful moment there, but then I knew that it wasn’t about my stress or Simis’ wicket because there are still other batters and it’s not about us, it’s for the country,” Botha said. “And I think the country really needed us to go to the final and they need us to win it. So I’m happy that we can do this for them.”There was a lot of nerves and anxiety throughout the batting innings, but I’m glad that we [are] in the final.”This will be South Africa’s maiden appearance at the Women’s Under-19 World Cup final. They failed to make it to the semi-final in 2023 on run-rate but this time they have had an undefeated run in the tournament.”I think the 2023 group feels it the most because missing out due to net run rate is not the best thing,” Botha said. “And a lot of the management really deserve it because they put in so much hard work and so many hard hours.”I think us coming off and doing what they say is our way of thanking them for all that they do for us. Yeah, I think [the] 2023 group is really happy. I know some of the girls back home are watching us.South Africa will play the winner of the second semi-final between India and England in the final in Kuala Lumpur on February 2.

Newcastle United are believed to be in the mix to sign an “incredible” player this summer, as they look to hijack Everton’s move for him.
Howe provides new Isak update
The Magpies are preparing to host Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday night, with St James’ Park likely to be at its atmospheric best amid the Alexander Isak saga.
Eddie Howe has confirmed that the Swede will play no part in proceedings against the club who want to sign him this summer, also reacting to his statement about being let down by Newcastle earlier this week.
“It was a sad moment. My preference is these things do not happen publicly. They are better dealt with behind closed doors. But needs must: the club has spoken, and justifiably so in that moment, the club has to act in the best interests of Newcastle United.
“It will do that in every situation. He’s contracted to us. He’s our player. My wish is that he would be playing on Monday. He won’t be, and that’s regrettable. But 100 per cent I want him back in a Newcastle shirt.
Away from the Isak situation, Newcastle are still working hard on possible new signings at both ends of the pitch, and they are reportedly battling others for the signing of a Premier League player.
Newcastle eyeing move for Man City defender Nathan Ake
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle are potentially looking to hijack Everton’s move for Manchester City defender Nathan Ake this summer. While Everton are already in talks and the Magpies are only “monitoring” the Dutchman, he is represented by the same agency as several Newcastle stars, including Lewis Hall and Harvey Barnes, so there could be a smooth path to personal negotiations.
Manchester City's Nathan Ake
Ake could be a brilliant addition for Newcastle, bringing a wealth of experience of him, not least six Premier League titles and one Champions League crown. The 30-year-old is capable of thriving at both centre-back and left-back, which Howe has shown he appreciates with his use of Dan Burn, and Pep Guardiola spoke glowingly about him during last season.

In some ways, it seems strange why City are willing to sell a player who still has so much to offer, but if Guardiola no longer sees him as an important part of his plans, Newcastle should pounce.
Hopefully, the lure of a move to St James’, including playing in the Champions League, ultimately appeals more to Ake than joining Everton, even though the Blues are starting a new era at their impressive Hill Dickinson Stadium this season.
Newcastle submit bid for 20 y/o prodigy with "true vintage striker vibes"
The striker was the second-highest goalscorer in Serie B last season.
ByCallum Kemp Aug 22, 2025
The £160,000-a-week Ake is a class act who has proven himself at the highest level, and at 30, there is no reason why he couldn’t enjoy three or four good years at Newcastle.
Kevin Thelwell raised more than a few eyebrows when the details of the deal to bring Youssef Chermiti to Glasgow Rangers on a permanent deal from Everton emerged.
Sky Sports reported that the Portuguese striker has joined the club for an initial fee of £8m from the Premier League side, with a further £2m in possible add-ons on top of that.
This means that Chermiti is the most expensive signing the Scottish Premiership giants have made since they paid £12m to sign Tore Andre Flo from Chelsea 25 years ago.
Why Chermiti represents a big risk for Rangers
It is fair to say that Thelwell is taking a big risk by splashing such a huge sum of money on the striker for Rangers, just two years after he signed the same player for Everton for a deal worth up to £15m.
The 21-year-old centre-forward failed to deliver a single competitive goal in two seasons with the Toffees, playing 24 matches in that time, and only scored three goals in 22 games for Sporting in his home country, per Sofascore.
This means that Chermiti has only scored three goals in his senior career by the age of 21. That is not a record that suggests that Rangers are going to get heaps of goals out of him straight away, which you would hope for from the money that they have spent on him.
Market Movers
Football FanCast’s Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club’s star player or biggest flop worth today?
A minimum fee of £8m is, therefore, a risky move by the club because of his unimpressive record, particularly when you consider that Nicolas Raskin is worth a similar amount.
Rangers have hit the jackpot with Nicolas Raskin
The Gers signed the Belgian central midfielder from Standard Liege for a fee of just under £1.5m at the start of 2023, and he has established himself as a star, winning the club’s Player of the Season award last season.
Raskin was left out of the squad to face Celtic on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership, but he remained at Ibrox past the summer transfer window and is expected to hold talks with Russell Martin to clear the air and reintegrate him into the squad.
There is no doubting the quality that he provides the team on the pitch after his impressive performances last season. He racked up five goals and 11 assists in all competitions, per Sofascore, on his way to winning the Player of the Season award.
His market value has soared beyond the initial fee of £8m that the club have paid for Chermiti to reflect his impressive showings in Glasgow in recent seasons.

As you can see in the table above, Raskin is currently valued at £8.7m by Transfermarkt, which is more than the fee that has been paid for the Portuguese striker and significantly more than the rough fee of £1.5m that was paid to Standard Liege for the Belgian talent.
Rangers' Leon Balogun, James Tavernier and NicolasRaskincelebrate after the match
This shows that the midfield star, who was once described as a “pitbull” by reporter Bob Faesen, has developed and progressed brilliantly since his move to Ibrox over two years ago.
Rangers have hit the jackpot with the Belgium international, who is now one of their most valued assets, and they will be hoping that he can kick on and be a key player again after his upcoming talks with Martin.

Russell Martin may look back on this tactical decision with regret after his underwhelming display.

More than three months after an awkward trip on the edge of a boundary rope in Cape Town, Saim Ayub has returned to full fitness. He will be available to his PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi from the outset of the tournament.Ayub was injured on the first day of the second Test during Pakistan’s series in South Africa when he raced back towards third man to cut off a boundary. Aamer Jamal pulled it back in as Ayub stood poised to be the relay fielder, but lost his balance and twisted his ankle. He went down immediately and appeared in anguish holding the lower part of his leg as the physio came on. Despite prolonged treatment outside the boundary line, Ayub was unable to put any weight on his right ankle, and appeared to be in tears as he was placed on to a stretcher and taken off. He was later seen on crutches in the medical booth.Ayub, who was at the time arguably Pakistan’s most in-form player, would later be ruled out of the Champions Trophy. His recovery timeline kept being readjusted upwards; initially the PCB estimated he’d be out for six weeks, which would have put him in with a shot of playing the Champions Trophy. It was later announced he’d only become fully fit partway through Pakistan’s recently concluded tour of New Zealand, but he ended up missing that whole tour as well.Ayub’s return is a major boost for Zalmi, with the opener among the franchise’s most consistent performers over the past two seasons. He was the fifth highest scorer in the league last year, and the seventh highest the year prior. Zalmi’s first match takes place on Saturday when they take on Quetta Gladiators.
