With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo edging closer and closer to calling time on generational careers, it can be easy to assume that football won’t ever be the same. But that crisis quickly becomes short-lived after one glance around some of the world’s best teenage sensations.

It is a generation full of absurd talent, so much so that it’s difficult to squeeze them all into a top ten. Arsenal have 15-year-old Max Dowman in their ranks, for example, who has already featured in a number of first-team games.

10 Rio Ngumoha: Liverpool

There’s a reason why Chelsea were left furious by Liverpool’s move to sign Rio Ngumoha in 2024. The tricky winger is one of the best teenage talents around and became one of the youngest-ever Premier League goalscorers when he netted a dramatic winner against Newcastle United earlier on in the campaign.

It was the stuff of dreams for the 17-year-old, who is now waiting in the wings for further opportunities to shine even as Liverpool struggle under Arne Slot.

9 Rodrigo Mora: FC Porto

Portugal have a knack for producing impressive young talent and Rodrigo Mora looks set to be the next in line. The attacking midfielder, who’s still just 18 years old, has scored three goals for Porto so far this season – including in the Europa League.

Like so many before him, the teenager seems destined for greatness and may well become the latest big-money export out of Portugal sooner rather than later.

8 Ayyoub Bouaddi: LOSC Lille

Speaking of stars playing beyond their years, it’s hard to believe that Ayyoub Bouaddi is still 18 years old. The way he controls midfields is a trait that a player his age does not have very often, but he has it in abundance. The midfielder is a mainstay in Lille’s first-team and arguably one of their key men.

The big challenge for the French side will be keeping hold of their young star. It’s a rare day when defensive midfielders of his technical ability and towering 6’1 figure burst onto the scene.

7 Francesco Camarda: AC Milan

Any Football Manager players will already know exactly what Francesco Camarda has to offer. But for those that don’t know, he is one of the best emerging talents in world football. The 17-year-old became AC Milan’s youngest Serie A debutant at 15 and then did the same in the Champions League.

The forward also managed to bag his first Serie A goal in the current campaign in what is likely to be the first of many in the famous AC Milan colours.

6 Ethan Nwaneri: Arsenal

Although he’s been unable to break into the Arsenal side with the same regularity as last season in the current campaign, Ethan Nwaneri remains one of the most promising talents around. He put Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side to the sword last season and already looks destined to find a role in Mikel Arteta’s team for years to come.

The Gunners will also be well aware that they needn’t rush the 18-year-old’s development like they were forced to do with Bukayo Saka, when they desperately needed a spark.

5 Franco Mastantuono: Real Madrid

Endrick hasn’t made this list but his Real Madrid teammate, Franco Mastantuono has. The Argentine arrived in Spain over the summer and has since shown plenty of flashes of his brilliance.

Having already scored his first goal in Real Madrid colours, the 18-year-old will now have his eye on avoiding the same fate as Endrick, who has been frozen out by Xabi Alonso. Given that Mastantuono has already started a handful of La Liga games, though, it’s clear that the Spaniard rates him.

4 Warren Zaire-Emery: Paris Saint-Germain

Already a Champions League winner at 19 years old, there’s a reason why Warren Zaire-Emery is one of the most highly-rated young talents around. It takes quite the player to break into Luis Enrique’s side these days, but the teenager has done just that on the biggest stages.

In a team which already includes Joao Neves, Vitinha and others, the central midfielder looks destined to become one of PSG’s top stars over the next decade.

3 Pau Cubarsi: Barcelona

You’d be forgiven for assuming that Pau Cubarsi is the senior centre-back in Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side, especially after Ronald Araujo’s reckless red card against Chelsea. The 18-year-old plays with a maturity far beyond his years and has handed those in Spain a key defensive mainstay.

Whilst it’s often attacking stars who steal the headlines fresh from La Masia, Cubarsi is proving that the famous academy is also capable of producing top quality defenders.

2 Estevao Willian: Chelsea

The rest of European football must be scratching their heads, wondering how exactly Chelsea snuck in to win Estevao Willian’s signature. The Blues quietly landed a generational talent, who is already producing on the world stage.

He looked a star ready for the headlines against Barcelona in the Champions League, despite being just 18-years-old. The Brazilian has quickly become one of the fan favourites at Stamford Bridge, and rightly so.

Estevao may have stolen the show at Stamford Bridge, but Lamine Yamal remains the best teenager in world football and one of the best players in the world, for that matter.

The Barcelona man is an early contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or and if it’s not next year, then it will certainly be in years to come that he sits on football’s throne. At 18 years old, Barcelona have unlocked yet another generational talent.

Liverpool's season crashed to a new, depressing low with a 3-0 home defeat by Nottingham Forest at the weekend. The defending champions currently sit 11th in the Premier League table following a sixth defeat in seven matches and now boss Arne Slot has come in for a huge amount of stick over comments after the damaging loss at Anfield.

Season falters as Slot makes feelings clear

Slot’s side have already lost two more league matches than in the entirety of the previous title-winning season. The shock 3-0 loss at home to Forest was the Reds heaviest home defeat in four years, highlighted significant defensive vulnerabilities and a lack of heart, with goals conceded to Murillo, Nicolo Savona, and Morgan Gibbs-White.
It was Forest's second consecutive win at Anfield, a result that has piled immense pressure on Slot, whose side has now lost six of their last seven matches across all competitions, with the only win coming against Real Madrid in the Champions League. 

Ahead of Wednesday's visit of PSV Eindhoven, Slot said: "The Forest defeat gave us a bit of a smack in the face." This comment has greatly annoyed many Liverpool fans.

Slot: 'I feel guilty for it'

The Reds boss said: "It's ridiculous, unbelievable. I have said many times you will never find enough excuses for us to perform like this. It's unexpected for the club, for me for everyone. We are conceding more goals than last season. This time last season we conceded zero set-pieces; now it's nine. The number of goals is close to ridiculous for a club like us."

The Dutchman added: "I take the responsibility, I feel guilty for it. We are busy working on it, I'm at the club where we aren't just used to being successful but also at times when we aren't. We are going to give extra effort. As a manager I try to lead by example and try even harder!"

For yes, in theory, a bilateral series between England and New Zealand is about to get underway. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been decimated by injuries early into the 2025 MLB season. In particular, the team's pitching staff has been forced to constantly reinvent itself due to ailments and set backs through April and May.

On Sunday, the Dodgers announced that right-handed relief pitcher Luis Garcia has been placed on the 15-day IL, bringing their active tally to a stunning 15 pitchers currently on the shelf.

Currently sidelined Dodgers pitchers include Gavin Stone (60-day), Michael Grove (60-day), River Ryan (60-day), Blake Snell (60-day), Blake Treinen (60-day), Brusdar Graterol (60-day), Roki Sasaki (15-day), Kyle Hurt (60-day), Emmet Sheehan (60-day), Evan Phillips (60-day), Edgardo Hernandez (60-day), Tyler Glasnow (60-day), Michael Kopech (60-day), Kirby Yates (15-day) and Garcia.

Despite their surplus of injured pitchers, Los Angeles entered play on Sunday leading the NL West with a 36-22 record. There's cause for concern, however, as the Dodgers have leaned heavily upon their star-studded lineup to carry them through much of the season. The team ranks 22nd in MLB with a 4.11 ERA and has 16 total quality starts from its starting rotation, which ranks tied for 25th ahead of only the Colorado Rockies, Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers and Miami Marlins.

The Dodgers, who are looking to defend their title this year, will be hoping that these injury woes don't persist throughout the season and that they'll have their rotation and bullpen in top condition heading into the postseason.

It’s been another frustrating campaign for Chelsea so far this season.

One week, Enzo Maresca’s side are able to keep Premier League leaders Arsenal at bay with ten men and tear Barcelona apart 3-0 in the Champions League.

Yet, the next week they’ll lose 3-1 to Leeds United and be held to a draw away to Bournemouth.

One of the big problems this season has been a lack of goals from their strikers, and the worrying thing for Liam Delap in particular is that Chelsea may already have a forward who could end his stay at Stamford Bridge early.

Chelsea did not score enough goals last season; they ended the campaign having scored 22 fewer than Liverpool, eight fewer than Manchester City, five fewer than Arsenal and even four fewer than Newcastle United.

So, on top of their other business, the Blues opted to send Nicolas Jackson out on loan and bring in Delap and Joao Pedro to compete for that nine position, with Marc Guiu then returning from loan after the Englishman suffered a hamstring injury in the third game of the season.

Now, while this looked like a reasonable plan from the outset, it would be fair to say that, so far, it has not really worked out.

The West Londoners have still scored fewer goals than the Gunners and City, and their forward options are a significant reason why.

Pedro, for example, may have been on fire in the Club World Cup and pre-season, but after the first few games of the campaign proper, he has underwhelmed.

For example, in 18 appearances, totalling 1377 minutes, the former Brighton & Hove Albion star has scored four goals and provided three assists, which is an average of a goal involvement every 2.57 games, or every 196.71 minutes.

Moving on to Guiu, the Spaniard has barely been given a chance to play this season, but has scored and assisted a goal in 280 minutes of football across eight appearances.

That comes out to a reasonable enough average of a goal involvement every 140 minutes, or every four games.

Finally, arguably the most orthodox centre forward of the lot, and potentially the most disappointing so far, is Delap.

When not injured or suspended, the former Ipswich Town star has made 11 appearances for the West Londoners, totalling 453 minutes, in which he has scored just a solitary goal.

Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, he is now set to miss another eight weeks of action with a shoulder injury he picked up against the Cherries.

Now, there is every chance Delap could eventually come good this season, but if he does not, his stay at Stamford Bridge could be cut short by another exciting striker making his way there in the summer.

The Striker that could end Delap's Chelsea career

Following the news that Delap would be out for up to eight weeks, there was talk that Chelsea could potentially bring Emmanuel Emegha’s move forward to the winter window.

That now seems to be unlikely, but even so, the Strasbourg forward, who agreed to join the Blues in September, is the player who could be bad news for the Englishman next season.

Why is this the case, you may ask. Well, the first and by far most significant reason is the simple fact that he appears to be a reliable source of goals and assists.

For example, in 29 appearances last season, totalling 2408 minutes, the Dutchman scored 14 goals and provided three assists, which is an average of a goal involvement every 1.70 games, or every 141.64 minutes. There’s a reason he’s been described as a “devastating” talent by scout Antonio Mango.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough for a young forward, the “simply phenomenal” goalscorer, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has gotten even better this season.

In 11 appearances, totalling 664 minutes, he has already scored seven goals and provided two assists, which comes out to a staggering average of a goal involvement every 1.22 games, or every 73.77 minutes.

On top of this incredible output, the Den Haag-born poacher is also the captain of Strasbourg, so he should not feel intimidated by stepping up a level in the Premier League.

Finally, he is also 6 foot 5 and no pushover, so on top of potentially being a better goalscorer than Delap, he should be able to hold up the ball at least as well, if not better.

Ultimately, there is still time for the former Ipswich ace to come good at Chelsea, but if he doesn’t improve this season, Emegha could be the one to end his Stamford Bridge stay as soon as next year.

Vinay Mrutyunjaya, another former KSCA officer bearer, will contest for the secretary’s post.Both Prasad and Somasunder were earlier part of the KSCA administration when Kumble and Srinath had served as president and secretary. Prasad served as vice-president while Somasunder, who is currently head of education at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE), was part of the managing committee.Two other women cricketers are part of Prasad’s camp – former India Women captain Shantha Rangaswamy and V Kalpana. While Rangaswamy is ineligible to contest elections due to the age criteria, Kalpana is likely to be part of the committee in some capacity.Prasad will be contesting against KN Shanth Kumar, who has the backing of Brijesh Patel, the former India batter and veteran KSCA administrator. Somasundar added: “The stadium renovation work needs to be done in a phased manner, and is something we will take up on priority. Salah experiencing difficult 2025-26 season

After years of consistency in terms of scoring goals and breaking multiple records for Liverpool, Salah has experienced a sudden dip in form in the 2025-26 campaign. So far this season, Salah has scored five goals and provided three assists in 19 matches across all competitions.

Alisson also showed support for Arne Slot, amid talks that the Dutch manager could face the axe, as the Brazilian said: "Of course, yes. The Premier League last season. Before Arne came in, everyone was talking about the huge challenge. It looks like everyone takes for granted what we achieved last season. That should be enough but we believe in his knowledge, his style of playing, that he is capable of helping us to turn around this situation. It's not only about ourselves but that's the situation with the club as well, they trust him. It's not only his responsibility, as a player, I also share it with him. Of course, he's the man responsible for how the team plays, but we are taking the responsibility and are the ones who take action and can change everything. It doesn't make the situation any easier, but we are trying to do that. We have the desire to change the situation and the manager does as well. To get us back on track for the football we were playing last season."

Salah left out of Champions League squad

Following his rant against the club and manager, Liverpool have taken the extreme step of omitting Salah from their travelling squad to Italy for the Champions League fixture against Inter in midweek. The Premier League champions have made clear to their star player that everybody – regardless of their standing at Anfield – must earn their place in the team. Salah will be left to reflect on that stance when his team-mates line up against Inter on Tuesday.

Reacting for the first time since Salah's outburst, the Dutchman told reporters: "I don't feel that my authority has been undermined. It's not the way I feel it. It's not about me, if my life is difficult, yes or no, that's not very important in a situation like this. It's if it is more difficult for the team and for the club. No one likes us to be in the situation we're in at the moment. First of all, it's difficult to see staff members who work so hard affected by the situation we're in now. Mainly because of the results. I'm the manager, I have to pick a team so to a certain extent I'm important, but my focus is on the team and not on me."

Rafael Devers is set to face the Boston Red Sox for the first time since they traded him to the San Francisco Giants last Sunday.

One of the key issues that led to the Red Sox trading Devers was that he was unwilling to play first base for the franchise. Devers was the Red Sox's longtime third baseman, until they acquired Alex Bregman this offseason and chose to have him play that position. Devers wanted to continue playing third base, but ultimately agreed to take on the designated hitter role by the start of the season.

In May, the Red Sox asked Devers to fill in at first base after Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury. Devers expressed frustration with the Red Sox trying to make him play another position, and about a month later, Devers would ultimately get traded to the Giants.

In what appeared to be a sudden turn of events after coming to San Francisco, Devers said he was "here to play whatever they want me to play" after joining the Giants. The Giants plan to use him at designated hitter and try him out at first base. San Francisco's top prospect, Bryce Eldrige, appears to still be the team's long-term answer at first base.

Before Friday's game against the Red Sox, Devers was asked why he's now willing to play first base with the Giants when he wasn't okay with doing so for Boston.

Devers responded, "I would say that I had some good numbers over at Boston, and I think that I do feel that I have earned some respect. If they would had asked me at the beginning of Spring Training, yes I would have."

Devers did not feel respected by the Red Sox trying to keep having him switch positions, especially since it is not easy to quickly learn a new position. The Giants' brass had conversations with Devers about his position when he joined the team, and are not rushing him into playing first base during a game either, which seems to be the key difference in the approach from each team. Devers remains a designated hitter for the Giants at the moment, and will not play first base against the Red Sox this series.

Ultimately, it appears that the organizational approach—not playing first base in itself—was the deal breaker for Devers when the Red Sox tried having him play first base.

The MLB All-Star Game looked a bit different in 2025.

While the usual star-on-star battles were present as always, the end result featured a twist. The game, which was tied after nine innings, did not go to extra innings but instead went to a swing-off between three sluggers apiece from the American League and the National League.

And even though some of the game's brightest stars were not there to witness the swing-off, the ending provided some excitement, as Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber belted three clutch home runs to lead the NL to victory.

So, how did the new-look All-Star Game and its broadcast on Fox fare in the TV ratings?

The MLB All-Star Game reeled in an average of 7.2 million viewers, down slightly from 2024 but an increase from its record-low viewership just two seasons ago.

Besides the swing-off, among the highlights of the game were the star-studded showdowns in the first innings—including reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge against 2024 Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes—Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman's return to Atlanta, Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw's appearance in the second inning, New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso's three-run homer, and the AL's late-innings comeback after it trailed 6-0.

The Rays beat the Red Sox 7-3 on Sunday as Boston clings to one of the final two wild card spots in the American League. The loss was not due to a lack of effort by Trevor Story who scored on a close play at the plate on a base hit by Romy González in the top of the seventh.

Story hustled home and slid past the plate and into the ankles of home plate umpire Chris Segal. Luckily, no one was hurt and the two exchanged pleasantries multiple times with Story patting him on the leg and then slapping him five when the umpire reached down to offer him help up.

There's just something inherently amusing about a player giving a referee or umpire or official some skin.

It should be noted that this was in fact a low-five and not a high-five. While it wasn't exactly "down low," it was only possible because the throw from the outfield was too slow.

Boston has six games remaining on their schedule and good umpire relations could be a key to holding onto that wild card spot. It's no coincidence that that polite young man Shohei Ohtani plays for a first place team.
