Tottenham fans delighted with returns of Lucas, Sissoko & Wanyama

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed on their Twitter account that Lucas Moura, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko are all back in training.

Spurs have struggled with injuries thus far this season, with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli out until March.

Both Sissoko and Moura could potentially feature against Chelsea this week as Spurs attempt to defend a 1-0 lead from the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, according to the club’s official website, although it seems Wanyama will have to wait until the weekend for his long-awaited return.

CheekySport’s Joel claims Spurs badly need to invest in January after not having “the balls” to beat Arsenal. Check out his uncensored opinion in the video below…

Kane scored a penalty at Wembley to give Mauricio Pochettino’s side an advantage in the Carabao Cup semi-final, and they will be boosted by the potential returns of two key players.

Moura had enjoyed a prolific season prior to his injury, scoring six times in the Premier League, but a knee problem ruled him out of the defeat to Manchester United and the dramatic 2-1 win over Fulham.

Sissoko’s injury also set alarm bells ringing in north London, with the Frenchman having become a key lieutenant of Pochettino this season.

Indeed, the former Newcastle man has made 24 appearances in all competitions, laying on one assist, according to Transfermarkt.

And his comeback will likely lighten the load on Harry Winks who, for a time, was Spurs’ only fully fit senior central midfielder.

Crystal Palace agree terms with Michy Batshuayi

[ad_pod ]According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, Crystal Palace have agreed terms with Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs – chiefly Everton, West Ham and Tottenham – but it seems the Eagles are in pole position. The signing will surely have Wilfried Zaha licking his lips, but Christian Benteke quaking in his boots.

What’s the word?

Well, Batshuayi has, by the sounds of it, had just about every club in England on the phone during Deadline Day as he looks to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge – his £170,000-a-week wage demands have proved a stumbling block, though.

However, the Selhurst Park outfit are reportedly in touching distance of getting him on a permanent deal and, having spent £28m to bring Christian Benteke to the club two-and-a-half years ago, a swoop for Batshuayi could well crush both that fee and the former’s chances in the first team going forward.

Bad news for Benteke

The 28-year-old has only just recovered from a nasty knee injury that required surgery and kept him out of action for months; he would surely have been hoping that he could fight his way back into the starting XI but the arrival of Batshuayi could leave him warming the bench for the rest of the season.

The former Liverpool striker had a brilliant first season in red and blue but has struggled for form in front of goal since – he scored just three goals in 2017/18 and is yet to net this campaign.Batshuayi is a well-rounded forward who would be an upgrade on his compatriot, Benteke.

Zaha’s assist-drought will likely come to an end quickly if the former Marseille man signs for the Croydon outfit, and the sheer presence of another feared forward should create more space for the Ivorian. Being crowded out by opposition defences has been a recurring theme of a somewhat challenging season for Palace’s talisman.

The Chalkboard: The absence of David Brooks and Callum Wilson should have Liverpool dreaming of top spot

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool welcome Bournemouth to Anfield on Saturday afternoon for a fixture which lends the hosts the opportunity to move back into top spot before Manchester City clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

On the chalkboard

The dynamic of the title race has shifted in 2019. Before the turn of the year, Liverpool were imperious, dominant and apparently unbeatable, but defeat at Manchester City in January has changed everything.

More recently, both Leicester City and West Ham United proved that there are frailties to be exploited within Liverpool’s back four, with injuries to Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold serving to disrupt a previously unbreakable unit.

That Liverpool have dropped points against the Foxes and the Hammers of late will be giving Eddie Howe reason to believe that his side can clinch a result at Anfield.

With Gomez and Alexander-Arnold still sidelined, Klopp will be forced to start a midfielder at right-back, and the joy the Hammers enjoyed against a makeshift back-four suggests the Cherries could cause an upset.

However, one pertinent detail worth bearing in mind is that Bournemouth are missing some key players of their own, with Eddie Howe confirming David Brooks Callum Wilson will be absent on Merseyside, as per Sky Sports.

“David has been to see a specialists and had scans, so I think around the four-week mark for him,” said Howe.

“Callum, it’s just a clean out of his knee, he’s probably around the same mark. We’re not going to be able to get them back earlier than that.

Bournemouth lack firepower without Brooks and Wilson

Bournemouth suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Cardiff City last weekend with Brooks and Wilson sidelined.

The absence of the injury-prone centre-forward allowed Dominic Solanke to step into the starting eleven for his debut last weekend, but his impact was minimal and he was subsequently withdrawn after 62 minutes.

It will naturally take time for Solanke to find his feet on the south coast, and an emotionally charged return to Anfield is unlikely to offer him the type of fixture he needs to get his eye in.

Brooks’ absence, meanwhile, is a huge blow. The 21-year-old playmaker has been at the heart of Bournemouth’s flair and creativity in the final-third this season, and his return of six goals and four assists from 22 Premier League matches speaks volumes about how seamlessly he has made the step up to top-flight football.

Without Brooks Howe is undoubtedly lacking the cog who connects the various parts of his machine, and with their top goalscorer also sidelined Liverpool fans can dream of returning to top spot.

Mourinho’s reported interest in Lascelles shows his stock remains very high

Before his sacking as Manchester United manager, it was well-documented how much Jose Mourinho wanted a new central defender for his squad.

Heading into this season, the likes of Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld were said to be at the top of the Portuguese coach’s shortlist (Sky Sports). But with a deal for either deemed as unviable back in the summer and nothing to suggest that that would have changed in January, Mourinho reportedly turned his attention elsewhere.

The Breakdown

ESPN reports that prior to his dismissal from the Old Trafford dugout, Mourinho considered Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles as a possible option to come in and fix his side’s defensive woes ahead of the January transfer window.

Lascelles, who joined the Magpies from Nottingham Forest back in 2014 before being loaned back to the Championship outfit, did not have the best of starts to the season, much like the rest of his team-mates.

But with Mourinho said to have been interested in his services, the 25-year-old’s stock still appears to be very high.

And when looking at his time at St. James’ Park, it is not hard to see why. Lascelles’ presence at the back has been massive for Newcastle with the club captain helping his side finish 10th in the Premier League last season with some solid defensive performances.

A real powerhouse in the air who is equally as effective on the ground with his ability to quickly read danger and deal with it, the former Forest man certainly comes across as the sort of central defender Mourinho would be interested in.

If he improves further, which he has time to do at 25, it would not be a surprise to see more managers from the Premier League top six target target him in the future.

Spurs fans react to Chelsea’s transfer ban

[ad_pod ]

Chelsea have been given a transfer ban by FIFA and will subsequently be banned from signing new players in the next two transfer windows, per Sky Sports.

The Blues have been handed a £460,000 fine, in addition to the transfer ban, after being found guilty of 29 breaches of article 19.

Sky Sports state that in a Chelsea statement have confirmed that they will appeal the decision, saying that they “categorically refute the findings of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and will, therefore, be appealing the decision”.

Chelsea will be able to sell players in the next two transfer windows but will not be able to acquire any new stars.

An 18-month deal was sealed for Gonzalo Higuain in January, as was a transfer for Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic. The USA international was loaned back to the German club and will link up with the Premier League giants in the summer.

The news is a blow to Maurizio Sarri’s side, who are having a number of issues on the pitch too. They are currently sixth in the Premier League, a point behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur fans, however, have taken great pleasure in the news. Indeed, Spurs have not signed a single player in the last two transfer windows, though they have not been under any sanction.

Their supporters on Twitter have had a field day with the latest news. Take a look at some of the best reaction below.

Kalidou Koulibaly: The man to make Manchester United great again

Manchester United are planning to make a world-record £90m move for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly according to The Sun, and he could kickstart a potential Red Devils title challenge from the back.

The 27-year-old has impressed in Serie A and the Champions League since signing from Genk in 2014 and looks like the sort of defender Jose Mourinho was trying to buy in the summer. Ed Woodward refused his request for a major defensive signing and the rest is history, so now it looks like he’s changed his mind.

It’s become clear that United lack an experienced, calm head to control the back four, even when Mourinho’s tactics didn’t leave the back four exposed. Now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is at the helm and playing more attacking football, the back four needs to be as strong as it was under Ferguson.

United may have a new manager come the start of next season, but the situation won’t change. The likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly simply aren’t good enough to command a defence the fans and club are used to. Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic would organise the back four to ensure United’s attacking style didn’t have to be compromised to prevent them leaking goals.

Today’s team seems a world away from this, however United’s centre-backs aren’t all that bad. Some defenders aren’t born for that leadership and organisational role and that’s fine, but they must be accompanied by someone who is if the partnership is to work.

Koulibaly has played all but two of Napoli’s Serie A games this season, 21, in a side who still champion the fast-paced, quick-passing playing style that Maurizio Sarri left behind. United aim to play as far up the pitch as possible meaning their defenders must be comfortable on the ball because they will have lots of it, the Napoli man certainly has this quality.

His experience in a well-drilled side playing attacking football could make him the defender who allows United to rekindle their attacking spark without worrying about their defensive stability.

Do you think United should sign the Napoli star?

Leeds fans heap praise on Pablo Hernandez’s creativity

[ad_pod ]Loads of Leeds fans have been reacting to their win against Bolton, and they’re almost running out of superlatives for Pablo Hernandez after he created a whopping ten chances.Hernandez has long been a fan favourite at Elland Road, and the Spaniard’s name will surely go down as one of the club greats if he drives his team to promotion this season.Set to turn 34 in April, the fan favourite is showing no signs of slowing down, as he has already racked up seven goals and 11 assists in the Championship this season.Who are the best away fans in the Championship? Pl>ymaker FC’s Thogden gives his top 10 in the video below…While he didn’t add to either of those tallies on Saturday, he did create ten chances, a truly ridiculous number, proven by the fact that Bolton as a team only created six.The winger was absolutely phenomenal as he worked to break down a deep and organised Bolton back line, and the Whites were able to pick up all three points thanks to a Patrick Bamford penalty and a rather lucky strike from Gjanni Alioski.Hernandez was undoubtedly the standout man though, and fans are stunned by his qualities once again. Aaron Ramsey is the big-game player Arsenal will clearly miss once he leaves

Aaron Ramsey once again showed on Saturday that Arsenal could very well regret letting him leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season after a brilliant performance against rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Welshman scored another memorable Wembley goal after sprinting away from his own half and then neatly beating Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to find the back of the net.

It was also at the same end of the iconic ground where Ramsey scored that famous FA Cup final winner against Hull City in 2014 and it showed what a big void he actually will leave when he joins Juventus from next season on, not to mention the winner he scored at the death against Chelsea in the 2017 Cup final when the match looked set to go to extra-time.

In terms of experience and composure in these big type of matches, Ramsey is probably the best in the Arsenal camp and it could become a problem for manager Unai Emery in the future if he doesn’t get similar players in.

The midfielder’s performances in recent weeks have been nothing short of spectacular and it is really clear the respect that there is for him in the team and the stature of his presence.

At only 28, Ramsey is perfectly set to become a superstar in the Serie A and in a world-class team like Juventus, while Arsenal could struggle to find a player of his respectable calibre again.

The Gunners though will need to develop the likes of Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi to become something of a player like Ramsey, who steps up to the occasion, although it will be difficult to replicate that sort of calmness and precision.

It was clear from the very start of his Arsenal career that Ramsey was going to become the hard-working type of player that actually thrives off the ball.

The Arsenal faithful will definitely be hoping Ramsey can continue delivering showings like that before his departure which could ultimately lead them to the Champions League again next season.

Mauro Icardi is the signing Liverpool must make this summer

Liverpool are in desperate need of a revival in form having failed to re-take their position at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp and his team were bitterly disappointed to not beat Everton but with nine games still to play in the Premier League, anything can happen.

Although Manchester City now sit one point clear, England’s top flight is known for its unpredictability and how anyone can beat anyone on their day.

Liverpool must adopt that same mentality and realise they’re still well in this title race, if they want to be successful again.

Whatever happens this season, there are improvements that need to be made at Liverpool Football Club, with the capture of a top-level striker being one of them.

It seems that Mauro Icardi is now set to be available – according to Corrierre della Serra via FC Inter News – and although competition would be fierce, Liverpool have to do all they can to try and sign him.

Icardi, (who is valued at £81 million on Transfermarkt) is a world-class striker that although sometimes is questioned for his off the pitch antics, always delivers when asked upon, on the pitch.

This season has been no different apart from being absent in recent weeks because Icardi has 15 goals in 28 appearances, proving that if you give him a chance, more often than not the ball will ripple the back of the net.

At the age of 26, he is prime to move to the Premier League and showcase his immense talent with Liverpool.

The thought of having Saido Mane, Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Mauro Icardi is simply mouth-watering and the Reds would have one of, if not the best forward lines in football.

Is this a transfer Liverpool should consider… Let us know!

Injury nightmare: Louis Saha and Manchester United

Injury: that short, unmistakable word; the heart wrenching ping, snap, twist, pull, tear or break.

It is a harsh reality sportsmen must face when competing at the highest level: that their bodies could, at any point, give in on them.

The tragic event which could befall anyone – the end of their career as they know it, at least.

Louis Saha is one of these people, one of the unfortunate few that were chosen and could do little to battle their way through the trials and tribulations of recovery.

The former Manchester United man made the switch from Craven Cottage to Old Trafford in 2004¸ presumably full of hope and anticipation for his then fledging career at one of the world’s most iconic clubs.

At 25-years-of-age there were no immediate signs of ill-health or physical fatigue – he was in the prime of his career, having already established himself as a talent at his former club Fulham, netting an impressive 26 league goals in 73 appearances.

From January to the end of the season Louis Saha was everything Manchester United could have hoped for.

He released some of the immense pressure which had been piling on Ruud van Nistelrooy in the wake of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s injury, scoring seven times in 12 Premier League appearances.

It truly was very promising stuff.

But fate reared its ugly head and cruelly struck the forward down the following season.

Saha would spend a month out of action after picking up an injury on international duty – a largely unnecessary risk players faced during the period of obsolete ‘friendly’ matches, pre-UEFA Nations League.

He returned but was never the same. Indeed, like with most injuries, players carry scarring; not the kind you can see, but the type that harbours itself inside the players head – those niggling worries that the injury may hit again.

And it did – a savage blow of stark similarity rained upon him – the same infliction under the very same circumstances on international duty.

He would spend two months out.

And again. Three months sidelined at the start of the following season.

In an amazing display of defiance Saha would return and re-establish himself in the first-team scoring 15 goals during the 2005/06 campaign, later replacing the outbound Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined Real Madrid in summer 2006.

Saha burdened the responsibility well. He had become the player Manchester United initially invested in; the pacey, mercurial, goalscoring talent that belonged in the starting line-up.

There was some consistency about his game until he was hit with more complication – this time affecting his groin and hamstring.

A single, paltry goal would sit solitarily alone on Saha’s record that season – a sad indication that the injuries had taken their toll.

An absence from Manchester United’s famous Champions League victory would be the final nail in the coffin for Saha, and he would agree to be moved on later that year.

Injuries would ultimately hamper his career at Everton, Sunderland and Lazio, where he eventually retired.

When asked by Shortlist who the best forward he played with was Wayne Rooney answered: “That’s so hard. There are so many… [thinks hard] I’m going to say Louis Saha. He’s a fantastic player; a real handful for anyone and I just really enjoyed playing off him. He was so lively and made great runs in behind. Always making space for others.”

This is both a testament to his quality and the catastrophic turn his career took.
